Let’s talk about a simple technique that can help — fast.

In those early days when milk first comes in, the breasts can feel like overfilled balloons — firm, hot, and almost impossible for baby to get a good mouthful of.

💡 Reverse Pressure Softening is a gentle trick to help.

It shifts some swelling away from the areola so it’s softer and more flexible — making it easier for baby to latch deeply and drain the breast well.

How to do it?
✨ Use clean fingers to apply gentle inward pressure around the base of your nipple — hold for a few long steady, calming breaths.
✨ Think of it as moving fluid back, not squeezing milk out.
✨ It only takes a couple of minutes and can make all the difference.

This little skill is gold when you’re engorged, baby can’t latch properly, or you’re feeling rock hard and desperate for relief.

🌿 Breastfeeding doesn’t need to be more painful than it already is.

But covering their car seat with a “breathable” cover might not be as safe as it seems.

🌡️ When we cover a car seat or stroller, we trap heat inside.
And babies can heat up quickly.
At around 104°F, their body starts to struggle.
By 107°F, the risk of heatstroke becomes very real.

The good news? There are simple, safe ways to keep your baby cool:
✅ Keep them out of direct sunlight
✅ Dress them in lightweight clothes
✅ Use sunscreen when it’s age-appropriate
✅ Add a stroller fan (outside the car only!)
✅ Take them out of their seat as soon as you can

It was founded by @midwife_alicia and the 2025 edition of BBLAW will run from May 12-18.

BBLAW specifically addresses the disproportionate rates of pregnancy and infant loss in Black communities.

The week aims to educate communities about the resources and support available for navigating pregnancy loss and bereavement.
